THE REGIME WANTS TO MUZZLE THE UNIVERSITY BY CLEASING. LE RÉGIME REGIME VEUT MUSELER L’UNIVERSITÉ PAR L’ÉPURATION

English version

For several years, Gabonese university students have been asking for better study conditions; but the answers these students have received from the administrative authorities have been: blows with clubs, tear gas, imprisonment, expulsion and exclusion. The Bongo regime has installed over the years, a heavy atmosphere in universities. A climate of suspicion is prevalent within the university community. Its members have strained relationships at all levels: teachers among themselves, teacher vs student, teacher vs administration, student vs administration... But beyond all of this, the greatest harm to students who dare to advocate for better study conditions, remains the temporary or permanent exclusion.

The definitive expulsion is used by the regime as a means of repression of any will to hold accountable the leaders of the country about the state of the Gabonese university. A way of purifying the University of people the regime consider dangerous, thus undesirable for its survival. For many years, the Bongo regime had already set up in the Gabonese university, and obviously, the principle of academic geopolitics; that is to say the ethnic catching up applied to education. This geopolitical process appears in the academic and administrative appointments, as well as in the results of examinations in departments and of entrance to the various Grandes Ecoles; in the recruitment of professors, etc.

All this unfortunately leads to complacency and inferior education where academic knowledge is less important than interpersonal relationships. The result is that the Gabonese university has become greatly ill. It is even agonizing! Unfortunately there is no one at its bedside. So it is to call for help that students regularly launch outcries against the descent into hell they live, and regularly ask why the State which is the guarantor of that university does nothing to stop it. But it appears that instead of tackling the issue by taking stock and correcting errors; the authorities prefer to dig... ever deeper.

These recent exclusions by the regime, of students asking it to account, confirm this desire by the political power to muzzle and guide the university in the image of what this regime has made of the country. Instead of universal values shining on our national environment, the regime wants everything to be a replica of the will of the Bongos, across the country; whether regarding attitudes, authoritarian practices, corruption, compromise, clientelism... none of the flaws of the Gabonese political system spares any of our sectors. In excluding the “spoilers” from the university, the regime wants to bypass any collective reflection about the management of our university. The message of the regime to students and professors who see the damage and the continual collapse of their institution is that they must remain silent and adopt an attitude of total resignation. But for those brave students who despite their incarceration continue to fight, they cannot passively witness the extinction of their university without flinching. For these students, it is high time to make a clear diagnosis and treat the Gabonese university. It is for daring to think that way, that the following students have been permanently excluded from the University of Libreville; the regime wanting so much to make these students into punitive example, also asked that these students be banned from any transfer to foreign universities:
