Those who watched the Netflix series about Pablo Escobar, remember these staggering scenes during which he came out of his hiding places to walk around in the street, demonstrating his feelings of impunity, despite the fact that he was at the time the most wanted man on the planet.

Gabon has just had it’s own version of that, as Hervé Patrick Opiangah (HPO), the most wanted man in Gabon, supposedly, has just reappeared out of nowhere, to promote his chicken farm business. All this under the nose of the authorities who did not lift a finger to bother him. What the hell is going on in Gabon?

Is it possible that HPO could have shown such defiance without the expressed permission of his best enemy C’Bon? This blog believes that their feud is over and both parties have negotiated a non agression pact. HPO will do as C’Bon wants, if HPO wants to live. End of the story. 

In fact, HPO and C’BON are Siamese twins. They both effectively are used to operating with impunity and can manipulate, intimidate, and corrupt just about anybody in the country and even beyond, to avoid any real consequences for their actions.

C’BON’s brutal and effective method of dealing with anyone who stands in his way is to first offer them a bribe to cooperate. If they refuse, they will be either emprisoned or killed. This is how he can neutralize a large portion of the local political establishment.

The reality is that the Gabonese justice system will now leave HPO alone. This is how things work in Gabon. C’BON decides who will be chased or not by the law. That a principle akin to banana republics.

Ceux qui ont regardé la série Netflix sur Pablo Escobar se souviennent de ces scènes stupéfiantes où il sortait de ses cachettes pour se promener dans la rue, affichant son sentiment d'impunité, alors même qu'il était l'homme le plus recherché de la planète à l'époque.

Le Gabon vient de connaître sa propre version de ces scènes, alors qu'Hervé Patrick Opiangah (HPO), l'homme soi-disant le plus recherché du Gabon, vient de réapparaître de nulle part pour promouvoir son entreprise de poulets de ferme. Tout cela au nez et à la barbe des autorités qui n'ont pas levé le petit doigt pour le déranger. Que diable se passe-t-il au Gabon ?

Est-il possible qu'HPO ait pu faire preuve d'une telle défiance sans la permission expresse de son meilleur ennemi, C'Bon ? Ce blog pense que leur querelle est terminée et que les deux parties ont négocié un pacte de non-agression. HPO fera ce que C'Bon veut, s'il veut vivre. Fin de l'histoire.

En fait, HPO et C'BON sont des jumeaux siamois. Ils ont tous deux l'habitude d'opérer en toute impunité et peuvent manipuler, intimider et corrompre à peu près n'importe qui dans le pays et même au-delà, pour éviter toute réelle conséquence à leurs actions.

La méthode brutale et efficace de C'BON pour traiter quiconque se met en travers de son chemin est d'abord de lui offrir un pot-de-vin pour qu'il coopère. S'il refuse, il sera soit emprisonné, soit tué. C'est ainsi qu'il peut neutraliser une grande partie de l'establishment politique local.

La réalité est que le système judiciaire gabonais va maintenant laisser HPO tranquille. C'est ainsi que les choses fonctionnent au Gabon. C'Bon décide qui sera poursuivi ou non par la loi. C'est un principe récurent des républiques bananières.
