THE RANTINGS OF RICHARD ATTIAS. LES DÉLIRES DE RICHARD ATTIAS

English Version

Recently, Richard Attias, Ali Bongo’s impresario through the New York Forum Africa, was on the set of TV5MONDE to promote that event (as seen on the video above). This blog comes to answer to some of the stupid things that were said during that interview.

1. First, the host of the show and Richard Attias suggest that this forum comes to welcome the return of Africa in the concert of international growth

Comment by Le Gabon Enervant/Annoying Gabon: This blog would like to remind Attias that Africa did not wait for him to start its macroeconomic growth. Reliable statistical figures have been showing growth of over 5% per year for the whole of Africa in the decade of the 2000s. When Attias proclaims that his forum comes to welcome the return to growth in Africa, he is only late by 13 years since this growth began a long time ago and the engine of that growth has been countries such as Botswana which did not need to organize this kind of expensive forum to initiate sustainable economic development. In Botswana, for example, the World Bank reports that over 90% of the population has access to potable water supply, but in Bongo’s Gabon, a country where Attias comes to pump his money, what is that rate? Could he tell us?

2. Second: who made Richard Attias spokesman of the African economy?

Comment by Le Gabon Enervant/Annoying Gabon: There are - and unfortunately continue to exist, people like Richard Attias, who pretend to be "africanophiles" speaking on behalf of Africans and wanting to "save" Africa, while stripping us of our dough. Indeed, Richard Attias in good wind merchant, pretending to take passion for our continent but still can be found in his language, the old tired ideas of those who want to speak on behalf of Africans without actually building equal relations with them. Richard Attias is not an economist, Africa has great, very great economists who better than anyone, can paint a realistic picture of the attributes of African economies. Here, the notion of African economists is very important because no country, no continent has been developed by people from elsewhere. The development is always endogenous. In the U.S., when they want to analyze the economy, we will talk to major U.S. economists such as Paul Krugman or Joseph Stiglitz. They do not seek analysts in Britain or Germany which have yet leading economists who can dissect the U.S. economy to the same extent than these U.S. Nobels. No, great countries understand that some things are better analyzed endogenously and it is this reflex that people like Ali Bongo do not yet understand. Africans are being imposed the opinions of a Richard Attias who brings us nothing, no value, but also costs us a fortune trough an empty glittery forum. Caution, we are not saying here that a citizen of the West could not speak with authority about the African economy. No, what we are saying is that Africans must now be the first affected by their fate and that African Economists should therefore be the first to speak in details about the future of this continent, as is done elsewhere, and if a citizen of the West is to add his stone, please do not give us empty suits such as Attias!

3. Third: Attias says that he has been organizing for two years, a Forum in Africa, for Africans and by Africans!

Comment by Le Gabon Enervant/Annoying Gabon: there, Attias squarely mocks the world! That forum is organized by him and his team, for that he bills the Gabonese treasury. Who are these Africans whom he speaks about as organizers of the NYFA? Who are the Africans he organizes this forum for, outside of Ali Bongo who pays him?

4. Fourth: Richard Attias promises to put African Heads of State on the spot

Comment by Le Gabon Enervant/Annoying Gabon: According to Attias, the Heads of State of CEMAC will be in Libreville in parallel to the NYFA and he promises to make them contribute to the forum. But does Attias know that the CEMAC is barely functional? Does he know that Ali Bongo is nothing in Africa? Does he know that together, the Heads of State of CEMAC have no continental resonance?

5. Fifth: Richard Attias said that solutions of the NYFA are proposed to the G8

Comment by Le Gabon Enervant/Annoying Gabon: could he give us a list of proposals that the 2012 edition of NYFA made to the G8? Attias is really the impresario of hyperbole!

The rest of the interview is of no interest!
