ONCE AGAIN, THE OPPOSITION SEEMS TO BE SINKING ITSELF! ENCORE UNE FOIS, L’OPPOSITION SEMBLE SE SABORDER!

English version

Gabon does not have an opposition but several oppositions, as brilliantly explained by Luc Bengono-Nsi in a recent interview. But with the approach of every presidential election since 1990, this opposition, with the regularity of a Swiss clock, finds a way to kill its chances to dismiss the Bongos, by engaging in debates and totally ridiculous internal disputes, which only serve to demobilize its militants and offer the regime arguments pointing to the unpreparedness of the opposition to rule.

Considering the intelligence and political acumen of some members of the opposition, to see them tear each other apart for nothing can only lead to the conclusion that they do this purposefully and that this behavior is guided. There is no other hypothesis! The writings of the late Gregory Gbwa-Mintsa about this phenomenon are instructive because he explains how after building the political monster that was the party of the Bucherons, Paul Mba Abessole and Pierre-André Kombila, once the mission they were given to channel the discontent of the Gabonese people, without ever crossing the Rubicon of seriously endanger the Bongo regime, was accomplished, contrived to engineer a false leadership quarrel whose aim was to liquidate that great party. Both sides did their work so well that they were rewarded by Omar Bongo who made them Ministers of State or Deputy Prime Minister.

When we look at what is happening in the Gabonese opposition today, we see that 25 years later, absolutely nothing has changed, the self-destruction mechanisms remain the same; which means that the strings that control these mechanisms are still drawn by those in power.

How to understand that at a time when the Gabonese expect that pressure is to be put on Ali Bongo, for a dismissal whose outcome is at hand, some in the opposition engage in open internal discord that takes the people away from the debate on the destitution of the impostor.

Dear readers, ask yourself two simple questions: who benefits from this? Who maintains this?

When you have answered these two questions, you can begin to identify those in opposition, playing the game of who loses wins! For this, there are some interrogations that might help:

-Why to have gotten together to create a united front of the opposition, if later they are tearing each other’s up by interposed media outlets?

-Why are some members of the opposition doing most of their opposition against other members of the opposition than toward Ali Bongo?

-Why suddenly the little quarrels of political backyard have become more important than the removal of Ali Bongo?

-What are these petty squabbles worth before the danger of leaving the Bongos in power for 60-70 years?

-Why quarrel on peripheral things, if all have the same objective, that is the departure of Ali Bongo?

Dear readers, we absolutely must free ourselves of any sentimentality in our assessment of what takes place in Gabon’s opposition because it is clear that this opposition is unfortunately a Swiss cheese, and there are solid areas embodied by the Luc Bengone-Nsi of the world, and holes we need to know how to detect. We need to discern who really wants the removal of Ali Bongo, and who is there only to block any cohesion within the opposition.

It is at this price that we will eliminate the recurring disruption within the opposition.
