One of the greatest Gabonese studio musicians, having accompanied the greatest in France and Africa, has just left us. His name was Jean-Yves Messan.

He had been the bass player of the greats like Johnny Halliday and Kassav; and also Africans like Tim and Foty; before becoming an arranger and producer as he was with Pierre-Claver Akendengué for his album Lambaréna that married classical music by Jean-Sébastien Bach to the rhythms of the Gabonese lakes.

L’un des plus grands musiciens de studio Gabonais, ayant accompagné les plus grands en France et en Afrique, vient de nous quitter. Il s’appelait Jean-Yves Messan.

Il aura été le bassiste des plus grands comme Johnny Halliday et Kassav ; et aussi d’Africains comme Tim et Foty ; avant de devenir arrangeur et producteur comme il le fut auprès de Pierre-Claver Akendengué pour son album Lambaréna mariant la musique classique de Jean-Sébastien Bach aux rythmes des lacs gabonais.
