A lot of people are dying right now in Gabon; too many in fact. It seems that a lot of people have always died in Gabon; but what is different these days is that those who could travel and seek medical treatments abroad, are no longer able to do so and consequently, the rich and the less so are dying in the same hospitals in Gabon.

The recent passing of former Prime Minister, Emmanuel Issoze-Ngondet, in the main public hospital of Libreville at the relatively young age of 59, was a reminder to all of us that while we are living, we must face the fact that we may need to use Gabonese health services, and if these services are not adequate, qe may prematurely die unnecessarily.

Facing up to this fact can be painful and disabling, but it offers us an opportunity to rediscover what is truly important and invest in it, so our country can become better off.

Emmanuel Issoze-Ngondet’s death teaches us that being able to hop on a plane and go to France or to the USA, for medical treatment, can last a while but to have true health security, we must develop Gabonese hospitals and make them more robust and capable to provide the same service one can get abroad.

Emmanuel Issoze-Ngondet’s death teaches us that those who rule Gabon must change their perspective and stop only caring about themselves. They must realize that they have a shared destiny with the rest of the population and that by fostering a sense of community and affinity with the Gabonese people, we would collectively be able to build this stronger country we all would like to see.

Mortality can transform a person’s life, a society attitude and interactions among the population. Encounter with mortality has the potential to transform the life of a society.

In Gabon, those closer to the regime think that they are above the problems of the less fortunate among us. But since the borders have been closed, they are now realizing that they must use the same medical facility they have neglected to develop for decades. If this does not get their attention, nothing would!

Beaucoup de gens meurent actuellement au Gabon ; trop en fait. Il semble qu’il y ait toujours eut beaucoup de morts au Gabon ; mais ce qui est différent de nos jours, est que ceux qui pouvaient voyager et se faire soigner à l'étranger ne le peuvent plus et par conséquent, les riches et les moins riches meurent dans les mêmes structures hospitalières du Gabon.

Le décès récent de l'ancien Premier ministre, Emmanuel Issoze-Ngondet, au principal hôpital public de Libreville, à l'âge relativement jeune de 59 ans ; nous a tous rappelé que pendant que nous vivons, nous devons faire face au fait que nous pourrions avoir besoin d'utiliser les services de santé gabonais, et si ces services ne sont pas adéquats, nous pourrions prématurément mourir inutilement.

Faire face à ce fait peut être douloureux et incommodant, mais cela nous offre la possibilité de redécouvrir ce qui est vraiment important et d'investir ces domaines, afin que notre pays se porte mieux.

La mort d'Emmanuel Issoze-Ngondet nous apprend que pouvoir monter dans un avion et se rendre en France ou aux USA, pour des soins médicaux, peut durer un certain temps ; mais pour avoir une véritable sécurité sanitaire, il faudrait développer les hôpitaux gabonais et les rendre plus robustes et capable de fournir les mêmes services que l'on pourrait obtenir à l'étranger.

La mort d'Emmanuel Issoze-Ngondet nous enseigne que ceux qui gouvernent le Gabon doivent changer leur manière de procéder et cesser de se soucier uniquement de leur nombril. Ils doivent réaliser qu'ils ont un destin commun avec le reste de la population et qu'en privilégiant un sentiment de communauté et d'affinité avec le peuple gabonais, nous serions collectivement en mesure de construire ce pays plus performant que nous aimerions tous voir.

Comtempler sa mortalité peut transformer la vie d’une personne, l’attitude d’une société et les interactions au sein de la population. La potentielle rencontre avec la mortalité a le potentiel de transformer une société.

Au Gabon, les plus proches du régime pensent qu'ils sont au-dessus des problèmes des moins fortunés d'entre nous. Mais depuis que les frontières ont été fermées, ils réalisent maintenant qu'ils doivent utiliser le même services médicaux qu'ils ont négligé de développer depuis des décennies. Si cela ne les réveille pas, rien ne le ferait jamais !
